Exact extension fee, IHS, and priority service — all visa types, updated May 2025.
Based on official UKVI 2025 fee schedule — including IHS
UK visa extension costs vary significantly by visa type. Most applicants pay the same fee as their original visa application plus the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) for the new period. The IHS is calculated at £1,035 per year for most work and family visas (£776 for students and children), rounded up to the nearest full year and paid upfront in full.
A Skilled Worker visa extension for 3 years costs £719 (fee) + £3,105 (IHS) = £3,824 per person. A Partner visa extension for 2.5 years costs £1,846 (fee) + £3,105 (IHS) = £4,951 per person. Health and Care Workers pay just £284 or £551 with no IHS — a major saving compared to other work visas.
You can apply to extend your UK visa up to 3 months before your current leave expires. Applying on time is critical — working or staying in the UK without valid leave is a serious immigration offence.
